A slum is a highly populated urban residential area consisting of densely packed housing units
of weak build quality and often associated with poverty.
About 15 percent of India is undernourished, 15% of 1.34 billion people is roughly 199 million people.
Around 30 percent of newborns die from lack of nutrition.
The infrastructure in slums is often deteriorated or incompleteand they are inhabited by impoverished people.
The lanes and alleyways are narrow, just wide enough for two people to pass.
Every fifteen feet there would be a doorway leading into a house, a singular 4×4 meter room
which was the kitchen, living and bedroom for an entire family.
On December 2, 2023, a team from C3 Church Shellharbour traveled to Mumbai, India, to support and serve some of the city's most impoverished slum communities.
Trip Highlights Church & Community: We visited the Blessing Home Orphanage, participated in a local Leadership Conference, and spent time at Pastor Sujil's church—including a joyous day celebrating baptisms with his family, followed by a wonderful lunch together.
Ambedkar Slum Outreach: Accompanied by Pastor Sujil and Miss Anisha, our team delivered much-needed school supplies to children in the Ambedkar Slum. We organized games, songs, stories, and a shared meal for the kids, who were absolutely thrilled by the visit. Understanding the Local Struggle Beyond our outreach, this trip opened our eyes to the harsh realities these communities face. The most imminent threat to Mumbai's slum residents is the constant fear of displacement. Because they live on what is now considered prime real estate, their neighborhoods are under heavy scrutiny from property developers looking to force them from their homes.

COVID-19 Relief (April – August 2021) During the peak of India’s third COVID-19 wave, our team distributed essential groceries and rice to families living in some of Mumbai's most impoverished slum communities.
